Topic | if you had $30k USD roughly what sedan or hatchback would you buy |
gloBal enemy 12/06/19 9:40:04 AM #54 | $40k AUD seems to be the sweet spot in terms of good value. If it were me in your position and wanting a car to last ten years, just get a Corolla or a Golf. You'll be getting at least mid-high spec or maybe even sports/mainstream performance models at that price point, tonnes of practicality, good resale, decent reliability, etc. Even though I used to be a Honda fan, their recent stuff doesn't inspire confidence and feels like they are lagging behind others in safety tech. --- If you can understand this, I'm 2/cosC for you. |

gloBal enemy 12/06/19 9:36:03 AM #44 | 24" monitor doesn't need to be curved other than to say it's curved IMO. I have a curved monitor but without the curve, the monitor would be significantly less practical to use. --- If you can understand this, I'm 2/cosC for you. |

Topic | What is your honest opinion on the C word? |
gloBal enemy 12/06/19 9:32:12 AM #17 | I find it crude/vulgar. Whilst society has become desensitised to it thanks to pop culture, I don't think it's an appropriate word to use in most of the contexts which you'd hear it in 2019. I should clarify though I'm not exactly going to be shocked or tell someone off if they use it, but I personally don't use it and I would be disappointed if my children used it. --- If you can understand this, I'm 2/cosC for you. |
Topic | Is $110,000 a good salary? |
gloBal enemy 12/06/19 9:29:24 AM #9 | Hard to answer this directly given both job-specific factors (role, expectations, employment type), candidate-specific factors (experience, qualifications) and location/industry. But for most people, anything six figures would be at least enough to put food on the table and a roof (of some sort) over your head. gloBal enemy 12/05/19 11:04:48 PM #52 | hyperpowder posted... Depends on what you like. gloBal enemy 12/05/19 11:03:46 PM #51 | Ten years = reliability and TCO matters more. And Op, given you're Aussie, do you have an AUD budget which might make it easier for me to think up realistic car choices or should I assume it's at today's spot rate (so circa $43k AUD)? --- If you can understand this, I'm 2/cosC for you. |
Topic | Car Throttle is the new Top Gear (before it became big) |
gloBal enemy 12/05/19 11:02:10 PM #1 | Not sure if anyone here watches Car Throttle on Youtube but I've found the trio of them to give a similar vibe to the old Top Gear UK series before it became big budget (and then before The Grand Tour). The 20-30min episodes are perfect and it makes me feel inspired to want to try my luck at some of those types of challenges. I also really like how they show the actual buying process and highlight what the negotiation off eBay/Gumtree/Facebook Marketplace actually looks like for a buyer vs Top Gear which only shows them rolling up in a ready-purchased car. eg Cheap Offroad challenge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nlA9lJpq3M Living in a campervan challenge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeLLuculK3U --- If you can understand this, I'm 2/cosC for you. |

gloBal enemy 12/05/19 10:55:39 PM #47 | NeonOctopus posted... er.... elaborate? There was a scathing video posted on Youtube recently from some people who worked on the show about how the challenges were faked - eg $5k budget challenge (it was the buy a cheap luxury car challenge) but in reality they had $10k to spend and then got mechanics to work on the cars prior to the show so that they'd work, getting crew to do all the driving scenes (eg drag races) rather than the stars, etc. And confirmed Tanner = Stig. Edit: Found the video. Note it was obviously from someone with a bit of an axe to grind, but it doesn't sound implausible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UYWWhQf5YE --- If you can understand this, I'm 2/cosC for you. |
